Eid Community Potluck
Eid Community Potluck
April 13, 2024 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Fireside Lounge (2nd floor), Randall Student Center, 46 University Dr, Augusta, ME 04330, USA
You are invited to the Second Annual Eid Community Potluck!
The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) will partner with local multicultural organizations to host a community potluck for Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, April 13th at 1pm. This will be an opportunity for members of our local community to share traditions, and to learn about local organizations that support Muslim communities in Maine.
Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, refers to a time of joyous celebration. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims around the globe celebrate.
Eid al-Fitr, translated as “the festival of breaking the fast”, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal, which is the 10th month in the Islamic calendar. This festival is a particularly significant time for Muslims to get together, appreciate their blessings, share special treats and delicacies, and celebrate with the community.
The potluck will be in the Fireside Lounge, Randall Student Center, on UMA’s Augusta campus at 46 University Drive, Augusta, from 1-3 p.m.
All are welcome to join, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share (No pork, please. Also, kindly provide a list of ingredients in your dish). The event is free and open to the public so bring your family and friends.
This event is open to anyone who wants to attend (all students, faculty, staff, and the general public).

PHOTO CONTEST: WEEK 11 - Our final theme for this contest, like many others this semester, is complex and multifaceted. On one hand, HUMANITY can be looked at as the totality of the human race. On the other, it captures the interactions and care that individuals have for one another. Whether you choose to interpret it through these lenses or one of your own, upload your photos HERE before 11:59 PM on Sunday, April 21st.
- As expected, last week’s submissions ran the gamut! Set aside a few minutes of your day to appreciate the artistry of the submissions for our BROKEN theme HERE.

Please Register here for this free educational program: https://forms.gle/ciMokZuzBC2afKPy5
This Earth Day, we invite you to become part of the “Signs of the Seasons” citizen science project. Volunteers across Maine are working together to build a rich, detailed record of our region’s seasonal changes. This data helps scientists document and respond to local effects of climate change.
Maine Sea Grant will offer an in-person volunteer training for the Signs of the Seasons program on the Augusta campus, co-hosted by the UMA American Conservation Coalition. Participants will learn about the goals of the program, learn how to make scientific observations of phenology (the study of cyclic and seasonal changes of plants and animals), practice making phenology observations on the grounds of UMA, and leave with the tools and knowledge needed to set up their own site to observe and record changes in phenology in their own yard or community.

UMA Faculty & Staff Drop-In Focus Session for Research Support & Development
April 30, 2024 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Online (Link in description)
Join the Zoom here.
This twice-weekly one-hour Zoom meeting room allows staff and faculty a focused time and space to work on research and writing.
After a 5-minute opening in which participants can check in with each other, propose breakout groups for co-working if they choose, or attend to other logistics, 50 minutes of quiet, focused time will begin. During this time, please respect the focused atmosphere of the group and support the work of your peers by prioritizing your own research and/or writing, and keeping your mic (and possibly video) muted to reduce distractions. If you need to communicate with group members, please do so using the chat feature, or using the RD&S GChat group chat.
At the conclusion of the hour, participants can check in for five minutes to discuss their progress and give each other kudos for their hard work.
This event is for UMA faculty and staff (not open to the general public). FMI: Amy Rahn, amy.rahn@maine.edu
