Christian Prasch (a.k.a. “CAP”) finds his roots in the buffalo grass-covered Sandhills of Nebraska. Growing up as the child of makers and educators fostered his lifelong passion for learning and creation. For CAP, the concept of scale and its influence on human interaction with objects and spaces is vital. He believes that daily routines, the rhythms of seasonal activities, and communal gatherings all seek a sense of intimacy and harmony within their environments. This balance drives his enthusiasm for discovering and crafting the mediums that fulfill these needs, whether it be clothing, jigs, furniture, or architectural spaces. CAP’s design education has spanned various contexts, starting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continuing in Hannover, Germany, and culminating at Columbia University’s GSAPP in New York. His practical experience is equally diverse, including military service in the US Air Force as an ICBM officer, internships with prominent firms like Michael Maltzan Architects in Los Angeles and New York, design production for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and non-profit visionmaking with organizations like Touch a Life and Art Feeds. His recent professional work includes efforts at PDT Architecture, Wood Group, and Colby Company Engineering in Maine. He currently works as a designer at Winkelman Architecture. In the spring, he embraces the role of educator, teaching a design studio at the University of Maine – Augusta’s architecture program, most recently fulfilling a one-year commitment as full-time faculty. Throughout his endeavors, CAP aims to foster constructive interactions and build resilient community connections. He views play and experimentation as essential tools in his creative process, embodying the spirit of “Oo De Lally”—living life with the wonder of a child. |
