A Reading and Conversation with Morgan Talty (Hosted by the HHRC)
Join the HHRC for a virtual evening of reading and conversation with Morgan Talty. A citizen of the Penobscot Indian Nation where he grew up, Morgan’s breakout story collection Night of the Living Rez has won widespread critical acclaim, becoming a national best seller and winner of the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize, National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize, American Academy of Arts & Letters Sue Kaufman Prize, The New England Book Award, the National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 Honoree, and a finalist for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Fiction, the Chautauqua Prize 2023, and Barnes & Noble Discover Book Prize. Night of the Living Rez grew out of a love of oral storytelling, structuring the stories into written form and intertwining a myriad of characters and events. A citizen of the Penobscot Indian Nation, Talty is an assistant professor of English at the University of Maine at Orono; on the faculty at the Stonecoast MFA creative-writing program and the Institute of American Indian Arts; and a prose editor at The Massachusetts Review.
