Eid Community Potluck
You are invited to the Second Annual Eid Community Potluck!
The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) will partner with local multicultural organizations to host a community potluck for Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, April 13th at 1pm. This will be an opportunity for members of our local community to share traditions, and to learn about local organizations that support Muslim communities in Maine.
Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, refers to a time of joyous celebration. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims around the globe celebrate.
Eid al-Fitr, translated as “the festival of breaking the fast”, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal, which is the 10th month in the Islamic calendar. This festival is a particularly significant time for Muslims to get together, appreciate their blessings, share special treats and delicacies, and celebrate with the community.
The potluck will be in the Fireside Lounge, Randall Student Center, on UMA’s Augusta campus at 46 University Drive, Augusta, from 1-3 p.m.
All are welcome to join, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share (No pork, please. Also, kindly provide a list of ingredients in your dish). The event is free and open to the public so bring your family and friends.
This event is open to anyone who wants to attend (all students, faculty, staff, and the general public).
