The University of Maine at Augusta and Capital Area New Mainers Project partnered to host the third annual community potluck for Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, April 5th. Over 90 people representing multiple cultures gathered in the Fireside Lounge to share food and good company during this celebration. Capital Area New Mainers Project collected hundreds of dollars in donations for a fund to provide kits for families welcoming a new baby.

Eid, meaning ‘celebration’ or ‘festival’, refers to a time of joyous celebration. There are two dedicated times of Eid in Islam that Muslims around the globe celebrate. Eid al-Fitr, translated as “the festival of breaking the fast”, marks the end of the month of Ramadan. This festival is a particularly significant time to get together, appreciate blessings, share special treats and delicacies, and celebrate with the community.
