Join us this August 29th for UMA’s “Empowering Inclusion: Disability Etiquette and Best Practices for the Workplace.” Facilitated by the Maine Department of Labor Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and hosted by the UMA TRIO Scholars Program.

This live event is open to all students, family members, faculty, and staff and will cover:

  • Understanding Disabilities: Learn what constitutes a disability, explore different types, and understand their prevalence.
  • Recognizing and Addressing Biases: Identify implicit and explicit biases, engage in self-reflection exercises, and discover strategies to mitigate biases.
  • Disability Etiquette: Master respectful language, effective communication, and best practices for interacting with individuals with various disabilities.
  • Best Practices for Creating Supportive Environments: Create an inclusive environment, implement effective communication strategies, and understand accommodations under the ADA.
