Sarah Hentges, Associate Professor of American Studies, published “Our ‘Positive Obsession’: Teaching Interdisciplinary American Studies through Octavia Butler’s Life and Work,” a chapter in Teaching American Studies: The State of the Classroom as the State of the Field from Kansas University Press. As the publisher’s website explains: “Teaching American Studies is both a new way to think about American Studies and a timely collection of effective ways to teach about race, gender, sexuality, and power in a moment of political polarization and intense public scrutiny of universities.”
Dr. Hentges also completed a 50-hour certificate in Embodied Social Justice from The Embody Lab this summer. She is currently working on a UMA course on the topic to be offered this spring.
