Fall 2022 Writing Support

Dear UMA Community,

We at the UMA Writing Centers are excited to work with students and faculty through the upcoming academic year. Writing Center tutors act as conversation partners, a practice audience, and outside readers for members of the UMA community working on academic, professional, and personal writing projects.

As we prepare for a new academic year, we have a change to announce. Jessica Winck is stepping away from the Bangor Writing Center to focus on a new writing initiative. Nate Berger, one of UMA’s writing faculty, will join the Bangor Writing Center as coordinator this year. Nate has worked with VAWLT as both a tutor and an interim coordinator. We’re excited for Nate to continue in this new role on our team.

The Augusta Writing Center offers in-person and remote writing consultations for student, staff, and faculty writers. Fall ‘22 hours are Mon – Tues 9am – 4pm, Wed 10am – 4pm, Thurs 9am – 4pm & Fri 9am – 1pm. Schedule a meeting in Katz Library Room 206, set up a Zoom consultation, or submit a draft for feedback using the Google Form. Write on!

The Bangor Writing Center offers writing consultations for all UMA students, staff, and faculty. To schedule an in-person or Zoom appointment, email us at bangorwritingcenter@maine.edu. Also feel free to stop by our physical location at 214 Belfast Hall for walk-in appointments. Writers seeking written feedback may email us their work, and we will respond within 2 business days. For more information, contact Nate Berger at nathaniel.berger@maine.edu.

The UMA VAWLT provides virtual support by email, Zoom, phone, and live chat. Use our Get Help form to share a draft, ask a question, or request a live session. We’ll complete your request within two business days. You may also email vawlt@maine.edu at any time. If you’d like to become a tutor, reach out to michelle.lisi@maine.edu.

Together, the writing centers offer UMA’s communities of writers a network of support through individual tutoring and group workshops. Additionally, we invite faculty to reach out to us for support as they develop the design and pedagogy of their writing assignments. Thank you for fostering a culture of writing at UMA!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth, Nate & Michelle
