“Hiring Workers from the Justice System” will be a ½ day free information session on Wednesday, March 20th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at the UMA Rockland Center, 91 Camden Street.
Staff from the Maine Department of Corrections, Rockland Main Street, and the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce will present information to employers about working with the currently incarcerated population, including the work release program and job training programs inside correctional facilities. An overview of how probation works, and information on tax credit incentives for businesses that work with this population will also be part of the event.
Presenters will stress the importance of including justice-involved individuals in local hiring practices for the social and economic good of our local communities. Specific details as to how employers may get involved in hiring “work release” individuals will be covered. Information will be provided on workforce training possibilities inside secure facilities like the Maine State Prison so offenders can learn employer-specific job skills prior to release.
Panel discussions will include both local employers who have experienced successful job placement with this population plus stories from offenders about their work release placements.
Although there is no charge for this event, registration is encouraged. Sign up and further information is available here.
