In an effort to show UMA’s support for survivors, as well as to break the silence and raise awareness about domestic violence, the names and thoughts from members of our university community were compiled into a visual display: The “NO MORE” Ribbon Project.
Sentiments included:
“To anyone finding themselves in that situation, you are strong enough, you are worthy and you have support. You can survive.”
“Domestic violence impacts members of our communities regardless of their racial or financial background or level of education. It absolutely impacts students at UMA. We need to be aware of signs of domestic violence in those we work with so we can become a safe and supportive resource for those who need help. You are not alone!”
“I stand with you. You are not alone.”
“I am glad to be a part of this. I have been through domestic violence about 12 years ago with my boyfriend at that time. I only wish I had the strength and support to speak up louder than I had at that age. Now I speak up, speak loud, speak proud, and speak up for those who can’t. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing this.”
“As I am rebuilding my life, I am also finding my purpose!”
“As a relatively new employee, I have to say that I am so impressed by the consistent thoughtful, caring messages and student engagement opportunities that I see. Even the short messages that President Cushman sends out acknowledging important issues (recent one was the anniversary of the Lewiston shootings), are so well done and they speak HOPE. In a world where there so much division and mental health issues at an all time high, HOPE is what is needed most. Thank you for helping those who are often not seen.”
“I am a Survivor. I am enough.”
