Aaron Sawyer, a UMA post-baccalaureate student in Cybersecurity, received a SANS Cyber FastTrack Scholarship. This scholarship for advanced cybersecurity training is awarded to students who successfully solved more than 250 cybersecurity challenges in a competition held over several months. The SANS Institute offers only 100 scholarships based upon performance. The initial pool of participants exceeded 13,000 worldwide. The scholarship provides full-tuition toward the SANS Institute’s undergraduate certificate in Applied Cybersecurity.
Sawyer, a licensed 2nd Engineer in the US Merchant Marine, is the only student from a Maine institution to receive this honor. He expects to graduate from UMA in December with a Post Baccalaureate of Science in Cybersecurity.
Also participating in this event was UMA student Joseph Mendez. Mendez successfully completed the first two rounds and received a $500 scholarship.
