This past year, UMA became the first campus in the University of Maine System to earn a Recovery Friendly Workplace designation. This designation means that UMA is working intentionally to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all employees with a history of substance use, and to develop a workplace culture free of stigma, where employees feel empowered to seek help for themselves or family members.
To meet these goals, UMA has established a Recovery Friendly Working Group. This working group will meet regularly to review policies and practices, help develop supportive networks, and recommend strategies for creating an RFW culture at UMA.
If you are interested in joining the working group, or if you have any questions, please contact Jeff Sychterz at jeffrey.sychterz@maine.edu or (207) 262-7703.
