UMA Nursing students inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Omicron Xi Honor Society

In a ceremony in Bangor, eleven UMA nursing students were inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International honor society.

The UMA Nursing Program is a member of the Omicron Xi at Large Chapter of Sigma, which also includes the University of Maine and Husson University Nursing Programs. Sigma is the only international nursing honor society and has as a mission to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.

The criteria for induction includes:

  • Completing half of the nursing curriculum,
  • Achieving academic excellence (3.0 or higher),
  • Ranking in the upper 35th percentile of the graduating class, and
  • Meeting the expectation of academic integrity.

On April 28, 2021, the successful nominees, Alena Ambers, Robin Campbell, Katy Longchamp and Haylee Paione were inducted in a ceremony attended by Dr. Shannon Gauvin, Director of UMA Nursing Program, Dean Brenda McAleer, Dr. Lisa Heald, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Dr. Jennifer Lakey, Assistant Professor of Nursing. Dr. Gauvin, Dr. Heald and Dr. Lakey all serve on the Omicron Board of Directors.

Other students inducted but not in attendance included Samantha Balestrieri, Emily Bosley, Alana Braley, Bryanne Lancaster, Nicole Mank, Grace Meikle and Abigail Plummer.
